Making an international education available for all students: Comprehensive support for EMMIRians of all abilities

At the European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations (EMMIR), we are dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all our students. As a prestigious Erasmus Mundus programme, co-funded by the European Union, we are excited to announce that we have funding specifically set aside to support students with disabilities. This funding is designed to ensure that everyone, regardless of their abilities, has the opportunity to thrive in our international programme.

EMMIR supports a global education and career in migration studies for students of all abilities.

Support available across all abilities

Financial and other support over the course of your EMMIR studies is incredibly flexible and can be tailored to meet the individual needs of each student. Here are some of the ways we can assist:

  • In-classroom assistance: We provide personal assistants, note-takers, and adaptive technology to help you fully engage in your classes.

  • Extra tutoring: Personalized tutoring sessions are available to help students keep up with coursework with tailored support.

  • Transportation: Specialized transport services to and from classes or study-related activities, as well as necessary support during internships or fieldwork.

  • Interpretation services: For students who are blind or deaf, we can offer services such as sign language interpreters and braille materials.

  • Customized support: We understand that every student’s needs are unique. If you require a specific type of assistance not listed here, we are open to discussing and providing customized support to ensure your success.

This support is not limited to physical disabilities but also includes assistance for learning disabilities and other challenges that incoming students may face during the program.

At EMMIR, we believe that every student, regardless of their abilities, should have the opportunity to study abroad and experience diverse cultures. Education is a powerful tool that can open doors and create opportunities. Our goal is to foster an inclusive environment where every student feels valued, supported, and capable of achieving their full potential.

About EMMIR

The European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations (EMMIR) is a two-year, fully accredited master's programme focusing on migration through an intercultural approach. Since 2016, EMMIR has been funded under the European Erasmus+ Erasmus Mundus label of excellence, making it one of Europe's most prestigious study programmes.

EMMIR students spend their first year studying in Germany and Norway and then choose from several partner institutions in South Africa, Uganda, Sudan, Czech Republic, Slovenia, or India for their second year. This multidisciplinary programme equips students with profound theoretical and methodological skills in migration studies and provides them with opportunities to conduct fieldwork in various international contexts.

Current application opportunities

As of June 2024, we are currently accepting applications for fee-paying study places for the 12th edition of EMMIR (2024-2026). Although the deadline for scholarship applications has passed, there are still opportunities for self-funded students to join our programme. The application call is open until 15 July, 2024.

The call for applications for scholarship placements (with a €1400/month stipend) for the 13th edition of EMMIR (2025-2027) will open in the autumn of 2025.

The availability of support for students with varying disabilities is not contingent upon whether you are a self-funded student or scholarship recipient.

For more information about our support services and to apply, please contact Keti Antadze-Tamminga at emmir(at)uol.de prior to submitting your application and we will happily discuss all opportunities for your support.

We look forward to receiving your applications.
