Edition 12 is officially welcomed to University of Oldenburg and EMMIR Programme in Opening Ceremony

On 25 September 2024, we officially welcomed the EMMIR Edition 12 cohort at the University of Oldenburg during an inspiring Opening Ceremony.

The event marked the beginning of a new academic journey for 33 students from 21 countries, embarking on their studies in migration and intercultural relations.

The evening began with a warm welcome from Prof. Dr. Martin Butler, EMMIR Course Director, followed by a speech from Prof. Dr. Albrecht Hausmann, Dean of Studies.

A highlight of the ceremony was the keynote lecture by Prof. Dr. Mary Boatemaa Setrana, Director of the Centre for Migration Studies at the University of Ghana, who shared her valuable insights in a presentation on her work, "Gendered Dynamics in West African Migration."

The ceremony also featured an introduction to the new cohort, including a video presentation that showcased the students' backgrounds and aspirations for the program.

The reception afterward provided ample opportunity for attendees to connect, network, and exchange ideas. We are thrilled to kick off another two years of rich academic exploration and social exchange with this vibrant and diverse group of students.
