Are you passionate about migration studies? The European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations (EMMIR) is accepting self-funded applications for its 13th edition (2025-2027) on a rolling basis until July 2025 or until all spots are filled.


This unique, international Erasmus Mundus master's programme provides an interdisciplinary and intercultural approach to migration studies, with students studying in multiple countries across Europe, Africa, and Asia. EMMIR offers a unique opportunity to explore migration studies, intercultural relations, and global mobility across these three continents.


Students in EMMIR engage with migration issues from diverse perspectives, combining theoretical coursework with practical fieldwork and research. The programme offers a mobility structure that allows students to spend each semester in a different country, gaining first-hand experience in a variety of cultural and academic settings.

Apply now for EMMIR: The European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations
EMMIR is a two-year Erasmus Mundus migration studies course and is jointly run by three African, four European, and two Asian partners, facilitated by a wider network of associate partners. 

EMMIR students and alumni lead exciting academic, professional, and personal lives over the two years of the programme. Student mobility is one of the programme’s crucial features, meaning that students spend every semester on a different mobility path. Graduates receive a degree diploma from eight partner universities.

Who can apply?


Applications for self-funded study places are open on a rolling basis until 15 July 2025, or until study places are filled.


The programme is perfect for those interested in migration policy, international development, human rights, and refugee studies, preparing graduates for careers in NGOs, international organizations, government agencies, and academia. Find our entry requirements here.


This application round is an opportunity for students who are eager to pursue migration studies in a globally connected programme, even if they were not able to apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship.

How to apply


Self-funded applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with decisions communicated within 30 days of submission. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as places may fill before the final deadline.
